Casey Draft Budget - Brooklands Green
Written by Administrator

At the May LRA meeting a question was asked of Tim Holding about the state governments stance on providing money for Brooklands Green. Minister Holding said that the government had requested a business case from Casey Council. Cr Stapledon didn't have much of a response at that time but shortly after sent me (as LRA President) an email with further info from City of Casey. The body of that email is:

With reference to the attached and Minister Holding advising that the State Government are awaiting a business case from Casey Council, may I bring to your attention that a business case has been submitted to the State Government on three occasions.

I apologise for not having that information to speak on last night but wanted to send this to you to allow you to disseminate this via your distribution list. Please let me know if you wish me to print copies to hand out at your next meeting. I am particularly keen for the gentleman who enquired about Council's position re; the Fighting Fund be given a copy to provide him with further information around this issue. Thank you.

The attached copy of Casey's draft budget is: Draft Budget Info Sheet 25052010

This is purely passing on info from Cr Stapledon to the Lynbrook & Lyndhurst community. Unless it is specifically stated that the LRA supports a particular view, please see articles like this as getting information to the local residents and not as any leaning from the LRA.

A quick check of Tim Holding's web site has shown a page discussion the Lynbrook Station now going out to tender. Excerpts from the page include:

Planning for a new station at Lynbrook is well underway with tenders now being called for construction firms to build the station through the $220 million New Stations in Growth Areas program.

Public Transport Minister Martin Pakula said plans for a new station were on track with the Department of Transport and Metro Trains now inviting  tenders with construction to start this year.

The new Lynbrook Station will feature:

  • passenger shelters and seating;
  • bus stops and a taxi rank;
  • a park and ride facility and drop off zone;

Affordable Housing coming to Lynbrook
Written by Administrator
May 12, 2010 at 02:31 AM

On Tuesday 5th there was a meeting at Lynbrook kinder with a representative from VicUrban and a number of representatives from Community Housing Ltd. Community Housing Ltd (CHL) is a provider of affordable housing. They have purchased land behind Coles in Cilento Crs with a plan for 48 medium density townhouses and apartment. This is being developed as part of the federal government's Nation Building project and as such, the Minister for Planning is the Responsible Planning Authority, rather than Casey Council.

Initially I was concerned about the reputation that Housing Commission homes have, and that was mirrored by other residents in attendance. The CHL reps in attendance basically said that they have a very thorough screening process and what would equate to a property manager for the development. About 12 - 15% of residents will come from DHS lists with the remainder coming from CHL's lists. The development will be wholly owned by CHL with residents just renting. There won't be an option of rent to buy or the like.

After talking to CHL, and with others present, it sounds like this might not be a bad move for Lynbrook. No one wants criminals and drug dens close by, but this sounds more like an opportunity for good people fallen on hard times. If CHL manage the properties as they say then the development will probably be no worse, and possibly better, than any of the other rental properties around Lynbrook.

Construction is currently planned to commence in late May and take between 6 - 9 months. The other medium density developments are expected to commence over the next 1 - 3 years.

The Department of Planning and Community Development will accept written feedback on the CHL proposal. All submissions are to be received by Tuesday 18 May, 2010.
